The 24 and Designated Survivor star will star in the yet-to-be-titled Paramount Plus film, in which he will play James Weir, a private intelligence operative.
Kiefer Sutherland has landed a new espionage drama as his next TV role.
The eight-part series will put the protagonist in the centre of a fight for democracy’s survival in a world beset by propaganda, behavioural manipulations, and the surveillance state, as well as the forces that dominate these powers.
Writers John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (This Is Us) are expected to direct and executive produce the show, with Sutherland joining them in the latter role.
“I’ve long admired John Requa and Glenn Ficarra’s unique body of work, and I’m excited to be collaborating with them and Paramount Plus on this exciting new project,” Sutherland said.
“It’s even more special now that I’m reunited with David Nevins. I can’t wait to see you all in 2022 with this exhibition.”
Requa and Ficarra went on to say: “We instantly thought of Kiefer Sutherland when we came up with the idea for this paranoid thriller. We’re ecstatic to be working with him, Paramount Plus, Charlie, and Suzan on this project.”
Meanwhile, Sutherland hinted at the possibility of reprising his role as Jack Bauer in 24 last year, saying he could do so if anyone comes up with a “great idea.”
