Corrie actor Adam Hussain has urged for action after his sister was subjected to racial abuse while on a tram in Manchester last week. When his 19-year-old sister, who had just finished a night shift at Manchester Airport, boarded the tram from the airport, she was labelled a “terrorist”.
On Instagram and Twitter he said that “it just goes to show how widespread racism still is”, and shared his sister’s story. A tram driver, according to Adam, was allegedly witness to the incident, but did not interfere. Manchester Evening News reports that Metrolink management have promised a thorough probe of the event.
To preserve money for her studies, Adam’s sister has been working at night jobs to supplement her income. After waking up at 6 a.m., she boarded the tram to get home. Frustrating and unacceptable that she has to deal with this despite her exhaustion and fatigue.
“People like them think they can talk and act in such nasty methods and get away with it, therefore I hope more is done. No one reports this kind of behavior because they think nothing will be done and they don’t want to deal with the trouble, but that’s what drives individuals to behave in a horrific way.
As well as expressing his support for Adam and his sister through Instagram is Coronation Street actor Jack James Ryan, who plays Jacob Hay on the show. Such racist attacks still occur, he said. His conclusion was, “Absolutely horrified, but sadly not surprised.” “Adam Hussain and his beautiful sister are on my mind right now. This type of trauma may have a tremendous effect on a person, even if it is unprovoked.”
