We will confirm that Holby City is receiving a new series creator. Seán Gleeson is known to take over from Jane Wallbank’s predecessor as the BBC’s medical drama manager.
Seán has a good knowledge of what is going on in the Holby City Hospital as a former producer and director for Holby’s sister Casualty. Seán’s rich background in medical drama also reaches BBC One daytime soap doctors, whom he previously directed and performed.
Seán was a professional actor for several years before working behind the camera. In the 1990s, his appearance as Conor Flaherty was first exposed in EastEnders, before joining the show in 2003 as Ronnie Woodson.
Seán said it was an exciting opportunity to talk about his new job. He was looking forward to improving and revitalising the firm favoured by an even broader audience with the crews, cast and the whole Holby family.
Kate Oates, head of BBC’s Continuing Drama, said that he was pleased to welcome Seán Gleeson as a Holby City serial producer.
Seán carries a great deal of love of medical dramatism and expertise of the valued BBC brands with him after two years as a producer on Holby’s sister Casualty. He has a distinctive and integral approach to design and storytelling, which makes Seán a superb leader and outstanding playwright, a director and actor and producer, he explains.
