After Life is a depressing comedy series created by Ricky Gervais that shows the life and suffering of Tony Johnson (Ricky Gervais), who has plunged into despair and is contemplating suicide following the sudden loss of his wife, Lisa Johnson (Kerry Godliman), due to breast cancer. The British drama series, which debuted on Netflix on March 8, 2019, was praised for its exploration of existential agony, human emotions, and the meaning of life as Tony Johnson unwillingly strives to create a life among his peers in the imaginary town of Danbury.
The sitcom’s second season aired in April 2020 to excellent reviews from critics and audiences alike. With 85 million viewers worldwide, ‘After Life’ has become the most-watched British comedy of the decade. It has acquired a big fanbase over two successful seasons, and they must be anxiously awaiting word on the series’ third episode.
Updates on Release Date
‘After Life’ Season 2 will be released on Netflix on April 24, 2020. The second season is made up of six episodes that range in duration from 25 to 31 minutes. Ricky Gervais signed a multi-year deal with the streaming behemoth on May 6, 2020, as a consequence of the show’s success and excellent critical reception, which includes a third season renewal. Ricky Gervais has stated that production would begin on April 19, 2021. The third season was shot for around 35 days, primarily in Hertfordshire, England, and is scheduled to conclude on June 4, 2021, with no anticipated delays due to the COVID-19 breakout.
Gervais announced on September 1, 2021, that the season’s cut and music had been completed and that grading would begin the following day. Despite the fact that neither Gervais nor Netflix have confirmed a release date, Gervais has voiced “doubt” that the third season will be available before 2021. Given the foregoing, we expect the release of ‘After Life’ season 3 in Q1 2022.
All episodes are edited now. Music recorded. We start grading the picture tomorrow to make me look beautiful. So that takes fucking ages. The dog is perfect already. #AfterLife3 pic.twitter.com/5GUXIrmvUm

Updates on Casting Members
The ensemble cast would return for Season 3, headlined by creator-director Ricky Gervais as Tony Johnson, Ashley Jensen as Emma, Tony’s potential girlfriend, and Dame Penelope Wilton (‘Downton Abbey’) as Anne, Tony’s friend. Season regulars such as Tom Basden as Matt Braden, Tony Way (‘Game of Thrones’) as Lenny, Mandeep Dhillon as Sandy, and Roisin Conaty as Roxy will return.
Kerry Godliman will very certainly reprise her role as Tony’s deceased wife, Lisa Johnson, in flashbacks. Anti, the German Shepherd that plays Brandy, will also make an appearance in the third season. David Bradley (‘Harry Potter’ film series), who played Ray Johnson in seasons 1 and 2, will not return for season 3 due to the character’s death.
Updates on Story
Tony’s father, Ray Johnson, who has been suffering from dementia, passes suddenly towards the conclusion of the second season, adding to the pain Tony has been bearing since the death of his loving wife. Tony asks his acquaintances for solitude and space in the last minutes of season 2, which really only escalates to suicidal thoughts. Fortunately, Emma’s visit to his residence prevents him from committing himself. Following this, Emma agrees to remain a part of Tony’s life despite his preoccupation with Lisa’s death.
Season 3 may begin with Emma integrating herself into Tony’s life in the context of a prospective romance. The season is intended to provide answers to Tony’s doubts about his existence and the fragility of life, as well as the decisions and choices he must make to move his life ahead in the presence of Emma and in the absence of his father.
