The eight-episode first season of “Grendel” has only recently been revealed, so fans will have to wait a while before seeing it on Netflix. However, if we follow “The Umbrella Academy’s” release schedule, the show was announced in June 2017 and premiered in February of next year. Therefore, “Grendel” could arrive on Netflix in the winter or spring of 2023 if it takes a similar release schedule, which is possible.
Andrew Dabb, a “Supernatural” alum who is also executive producing the upcoming live-action “Resident Evil” Show on Netflix, wrote and directed the “Grendel” series. Matt Wagner, the artist and writer of the “Grendel” comic, also serves as an executive producer.
As per Netflix, Abubakr Ali will play Grendel/Hunter Rose, an archetype who’s like Bruce Wayne if he were to become a lawbreaker instead of a vigilante superhero. Ali has previously appeared on the shows “Power Book II: Ghost” and “Katy Keene” and is set to star in filmmaker Billy Porter’s forthcoming drama “What If?”
Abubakr Ali, who plays Grendel/Hunter Rose, possesses the charm, style, and lively rawness that Wagner has been picturing in part for years, Wagner stated in a release.
Also in the cast are Jaime Ray Newman, who played Jocasta Rose in “The Punisher”; Julian Black Antelope, who played Argent in “The Flash” and “Debris”; and Madeline Zima, who played Liz Sparks in “Californication”; as well as “The Punisher” senior Jaime Ray Newman, who plays Grendel’s much elderly partner Jocasta Rose.
Beloved actor Kevin Corrigan portrays Barry Palumbo. Stacy, his younger niece, plays a crucial role in Hunter’s life, and Emma Ho plays her. Other ensemble members include Erik Palladino as Teddy Ciccone, Brittany Allen as Annabelle Wright, and Andy Mientus as Larry Stohler.
Netflix’s official synopsis is as follows: Grendel is adapted on Matt Wagner’s ground-breaking comic series and features brilliant fencer, writer, and killer Hunter Rose as he starts a war with New York’s criminal world to revenge the loss of a former lover, only to come to realise defeat when you can join them?
According to Comic Vine, Hunter Rose is a bright, creative genius in the comics and a world-class fencer and assassin. Unfortunately, Grendel, the slick masked killer, rose fast in the criminal underbelly of New York, putting him at odds with Argent, the man-wolf vigilante.
