With the anime series Black Lotus release, another exciting addition to the Blade Runner universe is on the horizon. In 2032, after the events of Ridley Scott’s 1982 masterpiece, but before Denis Villeneuve’s sequel, Crunchyroll and Adult Swim will air an original series called Black Lotus.
Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe serves as the show’s creative producer. A new key graphic was revealed and the series’ introduction during the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo on Thursday.
Crunchyroll and Adult Swim have yet to announce a specific release date for Blade Runner: Black Lotus. In addition to Japanese, Crunchyroll will also offer English subtitles for the series.
Toonami, Adult Swim’s anime programming block, will air the show’s English-dubbed version. Directed by Shinji Aramaki and Kenji Kamiyama, it will consist of 13 episodes.
Jessica Henwick, Will Yun Lee, Samira Wiley, Brian Cox, Wes Bentley, Josh Duhamel, Peyton List, Stephen Root, Barkhad Abdi, Gregg Henry, Henry Czerny, and Jason Spisak are among the English voice actors.
When it comes to the Japanese voice cast, there are Arisa Shida and Shinshu Fuji. Yoshiko Sakakibara and Hochu Otsuka round out the list, along with Takayuki Kinba, Masane Tsukayama and Akio Nojima. They portray Elle. A female replicant made for an unknown purpose.
As a young lady with amnesia awakens in Los Angeles in 2032, she discovers she has dangerous skills. In a locked data device, she finds her identity’s clues, as well as a black lotus tattoo.
To piece together her strange background, the woman sets out on a quest to track down those responsible for her identity loss.
The sci-fi series was teased in an English-language trailer released by Adult Swim. To find out who she is, the main character must fend off goons while delving deeper into the sordid underbelly of Los Angeles.
The anime’s harsh tone was also evident in the trailer, showing the series’ outstanding animation. Crunchyroll and Funimation will distribute Blade Runner: Black Lotus later this year.
