And there is some good news for all the cinema lovers worldwide. Avatar is coming up with its sequel. If that does not make you happy, we have something more to delight you. The 20th Century Fox announced that they would soon be coming up with 3 more sequels after Avatar 2.
James Cameron’s Avatar, one of the most successful films, an epic science fiction movie which was directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by Cameron, has been a breakthrough movie in the world of cinema.
Avatar was released in December 2009 and was considered an outstanding movie with critics praising the movie for its exceptional visual effects. The film was a massive box office success and became the highest-grossing film of that time.
Avatar was considered to be a ground-breaking movie as it made extensive use of motion capturing techniques and was also released in 3D and4D. It also led to increased demand for 3D televisions and increased the popularity of 3D films globally.
It became the first movie to cross $2 billion and to date remains the second highest-grossing movie when compared to 1939’s “Gone with the Wind” which is the top-grossing movie (approx. $3 billion) adjusting the inflation.
The immense success of the movie made Cameron sign four sequels of the movie with 20th Century Fox. Makers of the movie on April 27, 2017; released the dates for all four starting December 18, 2020, for Avatar 2, December 17, 2021, for Avatar 3, December 20, 2024, for Avatar 4, and December 19, 2025, for Avatar 5.
However, the desire to shoot various scenes of the movie required some upgraded technology which caused some further delays. The makers wanted to capture some never before done underwater scenes and took more time in redoing everything to get the best shot.
All such delays have led towards significant delays and now the new release dates would be December 17, 2021, for Avatar 2, December 22, 2023, for Avatar 3, December 19, 2025, for Avatar 4 and December 17, 2027, for Avatar 5.
The sequel of Avatar 2 is expected to witness some of the cast from the original 2009 movie to reprise their role along with some fresh additions. Actors Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald are making their return in the sequel.
New cast members that are expected to be seen in the Avatar 2 include Kate Winslet, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Oona Chaplin, CJ Jones, and Vin Diesel. Kate is going to collaborate with Cameron after 20 years after they did the iconic Movie Titanic which is also considered as one of the best movies of all time.
Vin Diesel also confirmed in 2019 that he could be seen in the Avatar Franchise but didn’t specify which sequel he will be starring in. We heard that the performance capturing of the sequel was completed in November 2018, however, the live-action filming began in April 2019. There is a lot of work that is supposed to be done on the visual effects as well.
Pandora’s story of the sequel may take a leap from the original movie where Jake Sully and Neytiri have started a family together and are doing anything to stay with each other. However, they are forced to abandon their house and explore the other regions of Pandora when an old danger returned to finish what it started. Going back to the original film, the stakes are really high and so is the buzz around the movie. The fans will be thrilled to watch some breath-taking visual effects with a powerful storyline.
No trailers are released yet by the producers and it would be too early to even expect the same.
