Avatar 2: is the flick confirmed for 2021 release?

In 2009, James Cameron made cinematic history with his epic science fiction film Avatar. The film was a breakthrough in cinematic technology and went on to become the highest-grossing film in the world until 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Avatar was also nominated for 9 Academy Awards out of which it won Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Visual Effects.

Following the massive success, Cameron signed a contract with 20th Century Fox to release four more sequels. But the question that arises is when?

Release:

The pandemic has stunted many industries in the root and Hollywood is one of them. With multiple films and TV shows being interrupted, delayed and even worse, cancelled, we’re just happy we to know that our favorite will not suffer a fate as worse as a cancellation.

In a recent statement by James Cameron, the director announced that owing to circumstances created by COVID-19, filming for Avatar 2 in New Zealand has become impossible.

Not to mention, coronavirus has also interrupted most of the virtual production work on the stages in Los Angeles for the team which is just as equally important.

Therefore, in the best interest of the public, staff, actors, and anybody involved in the process, 20th Century Fox along with the Titanic director decided to postpone the release date of the film from 2021 to December 16, 2022.

The other sequels are slated to release on December 20, 2024; December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.

Expressing his disappointment, the director shared that had it not been for the outbreak of the virus, fans would have gotten a December 2021 release as expected earlier.

He also expressed his gratitude to Disney Studios for supporting his vision not just for the sequels but for the entire Avatar franchise and the fans for their understanding, love, and support.

Cast:

Avatar 2 will reunite Titanic actress Kate Winslet and Cameron once again. The multi-starrer affair will see the actress work along with side Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington who will reprise their roles as Na’vi folks Jake Sully (former human) and Neytiri.

Also returning to the franchise would be Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang. Despite their characters dying, Cameron has assured that Weaver would not be playing the same character however, Lang, would reprise his role as Colonel Miles Quaritch albeit in as an evolved character. He will continue to play the antagonist in all the four sequels.
