Batwoman is the 2019 TV series following the plot of Kate Kane taking up the role of Batman after his disappearance. The show was quite a success and got renewed for the second season as well.

What do we know about the new season?

The second season’s teaser was released on 15 November 2020 and it features a Batwoman we have not met yet.

Why can’t we see Kate anymore?

We know that Ruby Rose, who played Kate Kane last year left the show as she was still recovering from her surgery to repair two herniated discs. So, instead of casting someone else in the lead, the company decided to include a new Batwoman, Ryan Wilder (played by Javicia Leslie).

How is Ryan different from Kate?

The creators have rewritten the whole character for the new actress making the Batwoman have a way different approach to Justice.

Ryan was actually a drug runner before she took up the cape crusader’s role and her playfulness can be seen in the few seconds she appears on the teaser as she surprises a group of bad guys by hanging upside down and shouting, “Boo!” in their faces.

Having a person of color as the lead of a superhero series is a huge deal for the whole community and let’s hope this is one of the first steps in the right direction and not the last.

Even as a little girl, I was fascinated by words. The idea of stringing words together to form meaningful sentences which could alter the emotions of other human beings excited me. At first I wrote fiction. It gave me a chance to live the different lives I’ve always wanted to. The way my friends reacted when they read my story gave me the greatest of joys. As I grew older, I realised that there are thousands of stories of people around me that deserved to be told. Then I started incorporating their stories to my fictional stories. Over the time, I leaned more towards article writing. I have always felt that writing is my super power. A power I could wield to bring joy and comfort to me and the people I care about.
