Big Mouth is a coming of age animated comedy following the life of Andrew and his friends as they get through puberty. This Netflix TV series is geared more towards adults and has got a great reception so far. The series has a score of 8/10 on IMDb and 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.

You can watch the trailer of the show here-

The first episode of the show aired on 29 September 2017 and has had two sequels since. It was announced that the fourth season of the show will arrive by the fall of 2020 but there has been no official announcements from Netflix since August.

When will the show be released?

As mentioned earlier, the show was initially scheduled to be released this “fall” which extends from October to early December. Netflix releases a schedule of shows to hit the screens in a month on the 21st of the previous month. But when the list was released on 21 October 2020, it did not contain “Big Mouth”. So we can see the show by early December.

The Cast changes

Actress Jenny Slate will no longer be voicing Missy, a mixed-race kid (half black and half Jewish). Following the Black Lives Matter movement which happened after the brutal murder of George Floyd, many started questioning the diversity the entertainment industry has been presenting. Many all-white casting of shows has been questioned, including Big Mouth.

Though Missy was a black child, a white actress was cast to voice the character. So, Jenny Slate left the show after posting a huge post on her Instagram explaining her exit. The same day, the co-creator of the show Nick Kroll wrote on Twitter, “We sincerely apologize for and regret our initial decision to cast a white actor to voice a biracial character,”

Now Ayo Edebiri has been cast to voice the character. “I was a true dork. So I don’t think I have to go too far to connect with Missy.” Edebiri said in an interview with Variety.

Such a positive change in this show should be appreciated though we have a long way to go in terms of representation.

Even as a little girl, I was fascinated by words. The idea of stringing words together to form meaningful sentences which could alter the emotions of other human beings excited me. At first I wrote fiction. It gave me a chance to live the different lives I’ve always wanted to. The way my friends reacted when they read my story gave me the greatest of joys. As I grew older, I realised that there are thousands of stories of people around me that deserved to be told. Then I started incorporating their stories to my fictional stories. Over the time, I leaned more towards article writing. I have always felt that writing is my super power. A power I could wield to bring joy and comfort to me and the people I care about.
