Deadline announced in August 2019 that Highsmith’s novel “Deep Water” would be made into a feature picture directed by Adrian Lyne and written by Zack Helm and Sam Levinson.

“Fatal Attraction” in 1987, “Indecent Proposal” in 1993, and “Lolita” in 1997 were among Lyne’s significant accomplishments as a director. Meanwhile, Helm had produced films including 2007’s “Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium,” and Levinson is best known for conceiving the HBO drama “Euphoria” as well as writing and directing “Malcolm & Marie” last year.

As per Deadline, Lyne has had his eyes set on directing “Deep Water” since at least 2013. The project is almost finished. Here’s what we know thus far.

Deep Water – Release Date

According to IMDb, “Deep Water” will be released on Friday, January 14, 2022. The launch of “Deep Water” in 2022 will commemorate a full two decades since filmmaker Adrian Lyne’s previous effort, the 2002 sensual thriller “Unfaithful,” starring Richard Gere and Diane Lane. “Deep Water,” which is also an erotic thriller, is a suitable comeback for the experienced director.

The movie’s release date shifted many times before settling on early 2022. According to InStyle, “Deep Water” was supposed to be released in 2020, however it, like numerous other film and television projects, was delayed owing to COVID-19.

The film’s release date was stated as August 13, 2021 at the time of InStyle’s article. While the August release date may seem more tempting to eager audiences, the new 2022 release date appears to be fixed in stone. According to W Magazine, the publication date was pushed out in March of this year.

All of this means that by January 2022, moviegoers will have waited a long time for “Deep Water.”

Deep Water – Cast Members

Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas will co-star as married couple Vic and Melinda Van Allen in “Deep Water.” Both performers have been associated with the project since its inception, with Deadline reporting their involvement in the film’s first announcement in 2019.

In November of 2019, a slew of new cast members were announced, rounding out the supporting cast. Tracy Letts, a veteran actor and Pulitzer Prize-winning writer, is one of these performers, as are Rachel Blanchard (“You Me Her”) and “Get Out” scene stealer Lil Rel Howery.

Other famous faces include Jacob Elordi from “Euphoria” and “The Kissing Booth,” as well as Finn Wittrock from “La La Land” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” as well as many seasons of “American Horror Story.”

Dash Mihok, Kristen Connolly, Jade Fernandez, Michael Braun, and Michael Scialabba round out the supporting cast.

Deep Water – Plotline

“Deep Water” revolves around married couple Vic and Melinda, who have grown dissatisfied with their marriage over time. Vic enables Melinda to have relationships with anyone she wants, whenever she wants as long as she does not leave him in order to prevent a divorce. When others around them start dying, their arrangement becomes tangled and even hazardous. When one of Melinda’s boyfriends goes missing, Vic becomes the top suspect.

According to Goodreads, Highsmith’s work delves into the complications of marriage, the perils of insanity, and “the grim reality beneath the glossy mask of American suburban life.”

And because it takes place in the little hamlet of Little Wesley, the crimes and murders are amplified in severity and attention.

There was not much information given more about narrative of the adaptation, but we can certainly expect it to tackle many of the same subjects as Highsmith’s novel. Overall, “Deep Water” looks like it will be an entertaining experience.
