A dark British situation comedy series named ‘Derry Girls’ which has seen two successful seasons has surely stolen hearts. It is a series that has been created to perfection with its talented cast and original write up. The story takes us back to yesteryears of Northern Ireland in the 1990s where there was tension and clashes between the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and the UK government. It has been created and written by Lisa McGee and produced by ‘Hat Trick Productions’.
On channel 4 it was telecasted in January and February 2018; the second season was seen in March and April 2019 and the third was planned for spring 2020. There were six episodes in season one and two. What we know from the official statement is that the production of season three which was planned to commence in 2020has been aborted as of now.
The stop has occurred because of the current pandemic situation in the world. As a precaution, the project has been put on hold till condition stabilizes and also to follow social distancing norms. As of now, there is no concrete information about season three.
From the past two seasons what we saw is that the story revolved around a city named Derry in Northern Ireland where Erin (Saoirse-Monica Jackson), her cousin Orla (Louisa Harland), their friends Clare (Nicola Coughlan) and Michelle (Jamie-Lee O’Donnell), and Michelle’s English cousin James (Dylan Llewellyn) live through their teenage amidst tension and troubles of Derry.
They were a part of a Catholic girls’ secondary school. The movie was shot in Derry and Belfast which is the capital and the largest city of Northern Ireland standing on the banks of river Lagan on the east coast.
The series was one of the most successful comedy one’s post comedy Father Ted on the channels. With an amazing performance score of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes from 21 critical reviews, the series has already topped the charts. The second season was also nominated for Bafta awards for its performance.
