An American historical comedy-drama web television, Dickinson is a series about Emily Dickinson who was an American Poet. The series is created by Alena Smith and produced for Apple TV. The period comedy-drama had its first season aired on November 1, 2019; this was the same time when Apple TV made its debut. 

Dickinson’s story takes you to the era of Emily Dickinson with a slightly modern tone. The story depicts her tale where she was exploring the constraints of society, family, and gender. How her perspective of becoming a writer does not fit in the times she is in due to her in-different imagination. Emily Dickinson has written over 1800 poems out of which only 10 got published during her lifetime. 

The series was announced on May 30th, 2018 and it was stated by Apple that it had given the production a straight to series order. In October 2019 before season 1 was premiered, Apple Tv went ahead and renewed it for its season 2. 

The series is written by Alena Smith who is also the executive producer of the show along with Paul Lee, David Gordon Green, Michael Sugar, Ashley Zalta, Alex Goldstone, and Darlene Hunt. David G Green is expected to direct the season 2. 

The series cast includes Hailee Steinfeld starring Emily Dickinson, Toby Huss who stars as Edward Dickinson, the father of Emily, Austin, and Lavinia. He is the one who holds traditional views and is in denial of Emily’s writing.

Jane Krakowski stars as Emily Norcross Dickinson, the wife of Edward and of Emily Dickinson. Adrian Enscoe plays Austin Dickinson, elder brother to Emily. Anna Baryshnikov stars as Lavinia aka “Vinnie” Dickinson, the youngest of the Dickinson siblings and Ella Hunt who plays Sue Gilbert, she is the best friend to Emily and the fiancée to Austin. 

The show was extremely loved by the fans of the historical comedy-drama. It received an approval rating of 74% by the review aggregator Rotton Tomatoes. The show was nominated at the 31st Annual GLAAD Media Awards for an Outstanding Comedy Series. 

Season 2 of the Dickinson is expected to showcase her dissect why most of the work by her was done in secret and her feelings about fame. She has written a lot about fame and running away from fame. Her obsession with fame was clearly evident from the kind of poems she has written. 

This could be a topic of high-value today as it’s relatively much easier to get fame in today’s digital world. The series will deal with what it is to be like a nobody or being invisible or unseen. 

The makers of the series plan to showcase the civil war in their period drama however it will not be the plot for season 2, which also means there could be a season 3 as well. No dates have been officially announced on season 3 yet. 

The makers are yet to release the trailer and the official release date.
