After the highly popular 2019 Downton Abbey film (an offshoot of the iconic TV series) comes Downton Abbey: A New Era. In addition to Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, and Elizabeth McGovern, the primary characters from the original Downton Abbey series will be returning for the sequel. However, there are also some new cast members, including Dominic West. The release date of the film, originally known as Downton Abbey 2, is also known.
March 18, 2022, is the release date for Downton Abbey: A New Era. According to Deadline, the Crawleys and their devoted staff will be on a trip abroad. Jim Carter’s Mr Carson is reported to have said, “The Brits are coming”. In addition, we may expect a marriage, though we don’t know who will be in it.
The year in which Downton Abbey: A New Era is set is not yet known, but it’s likely to be the late 1800s. No earlier than 1927, as the first film was staged. Because the show’s creator, Julian Fellowes, is currently working on HBO’s great drama The Gilded Age, fans may rest assured that the plot will be familiar. Almost a decade has passed since the very first episode of Downton Abbey aired in 2010! However, we’re still waiting for a complete trailer to be released.
All of the primary characters have returned. As such, we welcome back Hugh Bonneville (Robert Crawley), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley), Maggie Smith (Viola Crawley), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), and Penelope Wilton (Isobel Merton). In addition, Mr Carson’s sidekicks, Jim Carter, Phyllis Logan, Robert James-Collier, Lesley Nicol, Sophie McShera, and Joanne Froggatt, will be back on duty (Anna Bates). In addition to Hugh Dancy, Laura Haddock and Nathalie Baye, Dominic West has also been added to the cast. This is all the information we have right now, and not much is known about it.
