Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is a 2014 American science fiction apocalyptic adventure thriller film written by Mark Bomback, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver and directed by Matt Reeves. Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, and Kodi Smit-McPhee are among the cast members. It is the sequel to 20th Century Fox’s revival of the Planet of the Apes franchise, which started with the 2011 film Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Dawn takes place ten years after the events of Rise, which follows a group of people in San Francisco as they try to remain alive in the wake of an epidemic that wiped out the majority of mankind, as Caesar continues to establish control over his tribe of intelligent apes.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes was released in the United States on July 11, 2014, to rave reviews, with critics praising the film’s visual effects, plot, directing, acting (especially Serkis), musical score, action sequences, and emotional depth.

Plot
Since a lethal Simian Flu pandemic ten years ago, the global human population has been significantly depleted, with only around one in 500 people genetically immune. The outcome of cultural breakdown is the destruction of civilization. The apes have long founded a colony in the Muir Woods near San Francisco, led by the chimpanzee Caesar, who has conferred genetically enhanced intelligence on all of the apes.
A group of humans led by Malcolm trespass into the apes’ territories from San Francisco in search of a hydroelectric dam that would restore the city’s electricity.
An confrontation between Caesar’s son Blue Eyes and his friend Ash results in Carver injuring the latter. Caesar tells the humans to leave after Malcolm tries to avoid further escalation. Caesar takes his army to the humans’ society as a show of intimidation, prompted by Koba, a scarred bonobo who carries a grudge against humans for his mistreatment as a laboratory test subject.
Caesar declares to the world that, while the apes do not want war, if they are compelled to, he will battle the humans and insist that they remain in their territories. Malcolm persuades Dreyfus to allow him time to lead a small group into the forest to reconnect with the apes so they can get entry to the dam.
He meets with Caesar, who agrees to let them work on the generator if they hand over their guns. Malcolm, his wife Ellie, and their son Alexander form bonds with the apes as they live. When Ellie, a nurse, successfully manages Caesar’s wife Cornelia’s disease, the delicate bonding is greatly aided.
Dreyfus uses the Fort Point armoury to arm his kin. When Koba finds the armoury, he challenges Caesar and accuses him of preferring humans over apes. In answer, Caesar beats Koba but does not kill him.
After the humans successfully fix the generator and restore electricity to the area, Koba returns to the armoury and takes an assault weapon, killing two soldiers, before secretly killing Carver. Koba takes advantage of their revelry to set fire to the apes’ home in secret. He then shoots Caesar, who crashes into the underbrush below, and falsely accuses the humans of Caesar’s death in order to wage battle.
Koba soon assumes command and leads the ape army into San Francisco, plundering the armoury and launching a full-scale attack on the human city. The apes enter the structure and imprison the humans after suffering heavy injuries, while Dreyfus flees underground. When Ash declines to follow Koba’s instructions to destroy unarmed humans, citing Caesar’s rules, Koba kills him and imprisons all other ape loyal to Caesar, including Maurice, Luca, and Rocket.
Malcolm’s family discovers Caesar, who is seriously injured, and transports him to his old home in San Francisco. When Malcolm returns to the settlement to locate medical supplies for Caesar, he runs into Blue Eyes, who spares him before discovering that his father is still alive and joining Malcolm in his quest.
Caesar admits that it was Koba, not the humans, who shot him, and that apes can be almost as corrupt and cruel as humans. Blue Eyes returns to the tower after reconciling with Caesar and frees the captured humans and primates. Malcolm leads the apes into the tower before locating Dreyfus.
He discovers that the restoration of electricity helped Dreyfus’ men to communicate through radio with survivors from a military base who are now on their way to battle the apes. In a futile effort to destroy the chimpanzees, Caesar threatens Koba at the top of the tower, while Dreyfus, who has launched a suicide mission, detonates C-4 charges that destabilise the tower.
Koba begins firing at the apes violently, but Caesar pulls him off the ledge. Koba is disowned as an ape by Caesar and fell to his death while hanging to a metal girder.Malcolm and Caesar express their bond, with Malcolm announcing the impending arrival of the human military.
Caesar responds by convincing Malcolm to leave with his kin, stating that the humans will never forgive the apes for their attack. He then poses in front of a crowd of seated apes, waiting for the coming battle. Koba is heard coughing following his collapse after the credits.
