Sherlock Holmes is one of the most well-known fictional characters of all time, having been portrayed by many of the world’s best actors in film and television over the years. We’ve seen him be serious, humorous, and all in between while solving Europe’s most perplexing cases with the occasional quip thrown in for good measure.

As a result, it’s only natural to switch things up and offer a new Holmes some screen time, and Netflix was more than happy to oblige.

“Enola Holmes,” based on a book series about Sherlock’s younger sister, was a huge success for Netflix and gave star Millie Bobby Brown a chance to make an impact on viewers outside of “Stranger Stuff.”

Sherlock is still present, played by Henry Cavill, but he mostly stays in the background, allowing his sister to solve the film’s central mystery: their mother’s disappearance.

Enola Holmes, like Sherlock Holmes, never seems to run out of mysteries to solve, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to learn that Netflix is moving ahead with “Enola Holmes 2.” If the first film’s twists, turns, and revelations weren’t enough for you, here’s what you need to know about the sequel.

When will Enola Holmes 2 be released?

There has been a lot of speculation on when a sequel to “Enola Holmes” will be released after the first film was released. Millie Bobby Brown and the film’s producer, Harry Bradbeer, spoke with Deadline in September 2020 about their desire to return for a sequel, but it was far from a formal confirmation.

That all changed on May 13, 2021, when The Hollywood Reporter announced that a sequel was in the works, but unfortunately, the article didn’t have any details on when it will be available on Netflix.

Given the lack of details on when filming could begin, it’s fair to assume that it hasn’t begun yet, and that it will take some time. For the time being, our best estimate is that the film will be released in 2022. Given the star power and success of the first film, a summer release date would make sense, but something could happen.

The cast of Enola Holmes?

Millie Bobby Brown and Henry Cavill have signed on to reprise their roles as Enola and Sherlock Holmes, respectively, for the sequel, according to the THR post. As of right now, there’s no news about whether or not someone else will return, but we can expect to see some familiar faces.

Mycroft Holmes is played by Sam Claflin, Tewkesbury is played by Louis Partridge, and Eudoria Holmes is played by Helena Bonham Carter.

While no new cast members have been confirmed for the franchise, there will be plenty of familiar faces behind the scenes. Director Harry Bradbeer and screenwriter Jack Thorne are among those involved.

According to the same THR article, those two, as well as Michael Dreyer and Joshua Grode, will return to executive produce. “Enola Holmes 2” will also feature Millie Bobby Brown, Paige Brown, Ali Mendes, Alex Garcia, and Mary Parent as producers.

What happens in Enola Holmes 2?

There’s no news about what will happen in “Enola Holmes 2” for the time being, but there’s plenty of inspiration to go around.

The first film takes a lot of inspiration from the first book in Nancy Springer’s “The Case of the Missing Marquess” series, which also follows Enola as she tries to find her missing mother. There are five more books in the series that have been written, so screenwriter Jack Thorne has a lot of material to work with.

“The Case of the Left-Handed Lady,” the second book in the series, follows Enola as she continues to struggle on the streets.

She sets out to locate the girl who made the charcoal drawings when she comes across a series of them. When Enola discovers the identity, Lady Cecily, she finds that she’s gone missing, and she sets out to find her while keeping her own identity hidden from those who want her to be more ladylike.

Of course, the film series could take a completely different path and adapt a different book or develop a completely new plot. One thing is certain: “Enola Holmes 2” will not be missed by fans of the first film when it arrives on Netflix in the near future.
