Based on the book The Enola Holmes Mysteries by Nancy Springer, the film Enola Holmes sees the not-so-famous sister of Sherlock and Mycroft on a quest as she goes against all odds of expectations, gender roles, and even better, patriarchy.
The film has received positive reviews from critics and audiences alike and it looks like soon enough, this fourth wall breaking headstrong character might just take the centre stage along with the rest of her brothers. Wouldn’t that be a scene to watch?!
Review:
The Godzilla actress has often shared her desire to play a British character owing to her childhood roots and luckily, she got the perfect role to play with Enola.
The film has feminist themes as it sees the Enola who has been brought up unconventionally by her mother go against the ideals of an aristocratic 19th century England.
The film stands firm in its spot as it breaks gender roles and is no more a damsel in distress as she saves a young aristocrat and finds herself smack in the middle of the Great Reform Act.
Since the film is an adaptation of the first out of six-part mystery series, can we expect more sequels from Netflix in the future? If yes, the film has a huge likelihood to become the next film franchise, and even better a spin-off TV series! One thing we know for sure is that lot of exciting things are in the store for Enola Holmes.
