With the forthcoming release of “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” the Muppets return to their old haunt, the movie theatre. These felt-made buddies attempt to inject a touch of mayhem to the famous Disney theme park ride by creating something extremely goofy and at least slightly scary. “Haunted Mansion” could follow in Eddie Murphy’s footsteps.
The Muppets’ ability to accurately recreate the original film will be revealed when the special is released. Much of “Muppets Haunted Mansion” remains a mystery, despite the approval of Disney’s executive puppeteers. In addition, with Disney+’s debut quickly approaching, viewers may not learn any juicy facts until after the show’s premiere. “Muppets Haunted Mansion”: What we know thus far.
Would “Muppets Haunted Mansion” be a horror film without an element of the unknown? It’s safe to say that “Muppets Haunted Mansion” is serious about scaring audiences — at least in terms of the film’s upcoming release date. Gonzo and Pepe, the King Prawn, announced the movie on their YouTube channel in May 2021, but they did not provide a particular release date for fans to anticipate. It will be released in the fall of 2021, according to the two parties.
That may not be the scariest secret on the globe, but it does make one wonder why Disney is being so reticent about revealing what it is. Ideally, Disney would only like to surprise its followers by releasing the film without notice. The worst-case scenario is that the Muppets are having production problems, prompting Disney to postpone the film’s premiere. Assuming that the corporation was highly committed to the potential of a Halloween premiere but unclear whether the picture could be done in time, this would make sense.
This is purely theoretical. Disney isn’t too transparent about the reason for the wide release window. During the fall months, Muppet fans will be more alert and attentive to their favourite characters and shows.
This being a Muppets movie, most fans have an idea of who will be in it. Gonzo and Pepe will, at the absolute least, be present. They did announce it. Of course, the usual Muppet suspects are also present. As if Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear and the Swedish Chef aren’t enough to make a Muppets movie.
Muppets films, on the other hand, have always had a human element. The same is true for “Muppets Haunted Mansion”. As the film’s principal non-puppet actors, Disney has secured LaKeith Stanfield and Tiffany Haddish for the role.
Disney has yet to comment on Stanfield and Haddish’s involvement in “Muppets Haunted Mansion,” despite knowing the human actors. If the scenario is similar to Eddie Murphy’s original 2003 version, fans have a few candidates to portray. Murph might be replaced with Stanfield as the Mansion’s owner or Jay, the unknowing protagonist. She may play Jay’s wife Sarah or the gipsy ghost Madam Leota, who lives in a crystal ball. Disney has the world at his fingertips in this sense.
According to Variety, ‘Muppets Haunted Home’ will follow Gonzo as he is challenged to spend a night at the Mansion. “Muppets Haunted Mansion” could have a whole different storyline if LaKief isn’t playing Jay in this version.
This wouldn’t be all that shocking to most people, though. It was less a true copy than a loose interpretation of the original theme park ride in this 2003 film about a working-class father. He learns to respect his family while navigating a haunted mansion’s hazards and mysteries. A few minor characters and visuals were taken off the trip, but nothing significant was taken away. A theme park called “Muppets Haunted Mansion” would be perfectly acceptable for following an original story.
Regardless, the plot of this Muppets movie will be equally focused on the characteristics of each Muppet and the mayhem that results from their peculiarities. In the end, that’s half the fun of these movies. Kermit the Frog or Miss Piggy try to act like a new persona and fail miserably. A “Muppets Haunted Mansion” is virtually guaranteed to provide a little more fun to this year’s Halloween celebration.
