The prequel of the film had been written by Danny Brocklehurst and as Edith Nesbit has not been a part of the writing as of now, it is completely understood that something fresh will be served on the table this time. The synopsis of the story goes as follows:

“Inspired by one of the most beloved British family films of all time, The Railway Children Return is an enchanting adventure for a new generation bringing a contemporary sensibility to a classic story and combining British cast with stunning locations. The Railway Children Return will take audiences on an exciting and heart-warming journey, in which a group of children are evacuated to a Yorkshire village during World War 2, where they encounter a young soldier, who like them, is far away from home…”

A release date has not been out yet, however, we have gotten the news that filming has just begun. The film has been scheduled to make its mark and release in cinemas on April 1, 2022. As read by the synopsis, the filming has been taking place in areas of Yorkshire featured in the 1970s including that of The Bronte Parsonage and Haworth.

It is highly likely for a new generation of Railway to make up the cast. However, the names of the characters have been sealed well by the production team as of now. Things have been kept currently under the wraps but our estimate heavily suggests that Sheridan Smith and Sir Tom Courtenay would be having a few parts in the new film. In addition to them, one name would also be returning to the franchise and it is none other than Jenny Agutter.
