A current trend appears to be humorous stars dabbling their toes into horror. Tim Heidecker had suitably scary dual parts in “Us,” while Aubrey Plaza appeared in the adaptation of “Child’s Play.” As a result, it should come as no surprise to see Ilana Glazer, star of “Broad City,” take on the role of the next scream queen in Hulu’s forthcoming horror film “False Positive.”
When the trailer initially debuted, viewers may have assumed they were in for a quirky comedy starring Glazer. However, as the storey progresses, it becomes evident that something considerably more evil is at work. It appears to be a scarier time than the episode of “Broad City” in which Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) and Ilana thought they saw a man murder his wife in his apartment.
Thankfully, fans won’t have to wait long to witness a whole new side of Glazer. Everything you need to know about “False Positive” is right here.
False Positive – Release Date
Glazer’s involvement with the film dates back to February 2019, when Production Weekly revealed that A24 had taken up the script, which she co-wrote with John Lee. The film was picked up by Hulu to stream exclusively on its platform, and fans will be able to view it when it premieres on June 25, 2021.
A select few will get the opportunity to see the film before then, since “False Positive” will premiere a week early at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 18.
It joins a lengthy list of highly anticipated horror films that will be released around this time, including “We Need To Do Something,” “Werewolves Within,” and “Ultrasound.” Tribeca is the place to go for new scary movies, especially with its Midnight series, which presents the greatest in horror storytelling to those who are lucky enough to attend. The date to put on your calendar for everyone else is June 25.
False Positive – Cast Details
“False Positive” boasts an amazing cast of performers with backgrounds ranging from comedy to action films. Lucy Martin, played by Ilana Glazer, is the protagonist of the film. She’s a lady who’s been trying to conceive for a long time with her husband, Adrian, played by Justin Theroux (“The Leftovers”), and the two are at a loss for what to do.
Dr. John Hindle, played by former “James Bond” actor Pierce Brosnan, is the couple’s last hope, and he vows to assist them in their reproductive efforts. Lucy is expecting her first child, but not everything is as it appears.
Sophia Bush (“One Tree Hill”), Josh Hamilton (“The Map of Tiny Perfect Things”), Zainab Jah (“Homeland”), Kelly AuCoin (“Billions”), and Gretchen Mol round out the remainder of the cast (“Boardwalk Empire”). It’s unclear what everyone’s responsibilities will entail, but based on the clip, it appears like everyone gets an opportunity to go a bit insane at some point throughout the proceedings.
False Positive – Plot Details
The teaser appears to support Production Weekly’s description of the film as a “modern twist on Rosemary’s Baby.” Lucy begins to notice unusual phenomena once she becomes pregnant, such as seeing the eerie silhouette of an embryo everywhere she goes. She eventually suspects Dr. Hindle of doing something to her and is the source of whatever images she’s having.
Of course, the major question at the heart of it all is why the doctor (and maybe others) want Lucy to believe she’s insane.
When Lucy advises that they’re all “in” on something together, Sophia Bush’s character responds, “In on what?” in the trailer. There are greater, darker forces at work here, and “False Positive” will almost certainly lead to a gory, terrible conclusion that explains all.
With films like “Pooka!” and “Pilgrim,” Hulu has enjoyed a terrific run of original horror films thus far. This one appears to be one to keep an eye on as well.
