The faceplates, originally posted in the thelastofus subreddit by Reddit user u/Noctography, feature what looks like bricks covered in moss that remind us of the dilapidated cities visited during their travels by Joel, Ellie, and co. The concept also includes the immediately identifiable Fireflies logo and the title of the game as well.
“Other fans praised the creation in the comments of the post, stating that they wanted Sony to make The Last of Us faceplates official, and that they were “mega-impressed that it is still functional and not overheating.
The Last of Us subreddit has recently provided numerous fan creations and findings, including that the face model of Abby cosplayed as the character, you can collect a ton of supplies in an early and easily missable part of the game, and that Laura Bailey was also in the first game of The Last of Us.
A mockup design of actor Pedro Pascal as Joel in The Last of Us HBO series was another recent and impressive fan creation that was shared with the subreddit, which he was recently confirmed to be cast in.
Custom PS5 faceplates are also nothing new either, with unofficial black faceplates surfacing all the time online, and entire businesses popping up all over the world dedicated to the trend. However, this is not to say that Sony is too pleased with this idea, as they have had to require businesses in the past to cease production and threaten legal action.
Unfortunately for the rest of us though, it looks as though u/Noctography’s The Last of Us faceplates were simply a project for themselves.
