Netflix’s new Christmas movie, Jingle Jangle, is not one of the Christmas romantic comedies that have become so popular lately, but a full-on musical and visual extravaganza.
Netflix has released a few images from the upcoming film. Described as being magical and whimsical, the images give fans an idea of what to expect.
From the photographs alone, this musical promises to be a truly entertaining and exciting ride. The film also has an extremely talented cast and crew.
Jeronicus Jangle, played by Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker, is an eccentric inventor. He and his granddaughter, Journey (Madalen Mills) go on an adventure full of strange wonders, toys that talk and Christmas spirit and cheer.
The rest of the cast comprises Tony Award winner Anika Noni Rose (from The Princess and the Frog), Emmy Award winner Keegan-Michael Key, Tony award winner Phylicia Rashad and Justin Cornwell. David E Talbert is the writer and director.
The film also features original songs by John Legend, Davy Nathan, Philip Lawrence and “This Day” sung by Usher and Kiana Lede.
Talbert spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the great importance of having a cast led by people of colour for a highly anticipated holiday film.
He said, “For me as a father of a little Black boy and an uncle of a little Black girl, it’s important for me to put images of wonder and magic that are universal out in the universe.
Because if we never see it, then how do we know we can be it?”
About the film, he also added, it is “something we’ve never seen. And when you watch it, you realize it’s something we should have seen.”
A trailer should be arriving in the coming weeks and the film premieres on Netflix on 13 November.
Other Netflix Christmas movies include a musical starring Dolly Parton premiering later in the month. It will feature a number of new songs from her.
