Actress Zöe Lucker isn’t “certain” that a Footballers’ Wives revival will work. Lucker, who plays Tanya in the ITV drama with Ben Price’s Conrad and Laila Rouass’ Amber, sat down with Digital Spy for an exclusive interview to celebrate the show’s debut on Britbox this week.

Her main concern is that people liked the series as it was. “A new one that isn’t as wonderful will take away from people’s fond recollections of the original one. As a result, I’m not sure if a reset will happen.”

I know for a fact that I would never do such sex scenes at this age because of my daughter and because I am a prude,” Lucker said. I was unable to do it. To have to remove my clothing on national television now would be a disaster for me.

In the past, I would zone out and forget it was on television. Just get the job done, that’s all. For us [backstage], nothing [was] as explicit [as it appeared] because of the way everything was shot and processed.”

Meanwhile, in 2006, the actress (who has previously appeared in EastEnders and Hollyoaks) brought up the matter of the show being cancelled.

“We were unsure if this was the end or not. None of us, I believe. A scenario that finished well for me allowed me to continue in my mind if necessary. Unfortunately, a second concert for Shed Productions took precedence, so I wouldn’t have been able to execute it.”

According to Lucker, the general mood was one of sadness and gratitude for the opportunity. Tanya, she believes, “is probably working in a nightclub.”

Footballers’ Wives has become accessible on Britbox.
