Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer revealed that they had an off-screen romance while filming Friends. In the long-awaited Friends reunion episode, the couple appeared alongside four other major cast members of the sitcom. In the 1990s, James Corden asked them if they had any romantic feelings for themselves.

Aniston and Schwimmer immediately exchanged glances in response.

“I had a major crash on Jen in the first season – we crushed each other hard, but we were as if we were passing through two ships because one of us was always related and we never crossed the boundary,” Schwimmer explained.

Aniston claimed that the actor had “reciprocal feelings” for her and that the two would “spoon and fall asleep together on the couch” during the rehearsal break. “How did no one know we were crushing each other?” Swimmer kept going. Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt Le Blanc all accepted the “knowledge.” Aniston explained that the couple instead focused on “channelling Ross and Rachel with all our adoration and love.”

Nonetheless, she warned Schwimmer that “the first time you and I kiss on national television will be such a bummer.”That’s right: Ross and Rachel share their first kiss in Central Perk in the episode “The One Where Ross Finds Out.”

Cox called the couple’s feelings for each other “palpable,” adding that their romance was never good because their scenes together “probably weren’t so good.”

Schwimmer also recalled how he and Aniston would “cuddle on a couch” during business breakfasts together early in Friends, and asked him, “How could no one could find that we have crush on each other?” His co-stars had the answer. “We knew,” Matthew Perry and Courteney Cox said immediately. Cox continued, “because if you had it and it didn’t work out, it wouldn’t be that great.”
