It’s been one year since the tragic death of Glee star Naya Rivera and the co-stars are seen to be remembering her on her death anniversary. In the musical series, Naya was seen to be playing the role of Santana Lopez. Last year Naya died due to an accidental death from drowning at Lake Piru. Rivera disappeared from a boat she rented while out on a Southern California lake with her then-4-year-old son Josey. Days later, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office announced a body found at the lake had been identified as the actress. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office later said the 33-year-old actress died from an accidental drowning.
Naya’s co-stars of the musical series Glee paid their tributes to the actress on her death anniversary this Thursday (8th of July) on the social media platforms, just a few months after they reunited for a special presentation to honor her at the 32nd annual GLAAD Media Awards.
A black-and-white photo of Naya performing on Instagram Stories, accompanied by a dove emoji was posted by Lea Michele who played Rachel Barry in the series. Matthew Morrison who played the character of Will Schuester on the other hand also kept it simple and subtle by sharing a photo of Naya with a heart emoji. A behind the scenes photo of Naya Rivera was posted by the co-star Kevin McHale who played Artie Abrams. The caption of the photo quoted: “I miss you. Every single day.”
Other co-stars, Jenna Ushkowitz aka Tina Cohen-Chang, remembered Naya Rivera with a photo from the set of Glee, “Always a light, always with us,” she wrote alongside a still of Santana on stage. “My heart is with you and your family today.” Chris Colfer, the series’ Kurt Hummel, and Sue Sylvester’s Jane Lynch also marked the passing of Naya on Instagram and Twitter, respectively.
Santana’s best friend Brittany aka Heather Morris was seen to be sharing her personal grief with the fans on Naya Rivera’s death anniversary. She told fans on Instagram that the actress’ “legacy lives on in kindness.,” through her post for the late friend. On Thursday Heather paid tribute to her late friend, whom she called “the brightest star in my eyes.” In addition to a photo of Naya, Heather also shared a video of her getting a tattoo which reads “tomorrow is not promised.”
The caption read: “It hasn’t gotten easier to write a caption, I’m so grateful GOD LAID A HAND and brought us together as best friends, mom friends, scene partners, and everything in between. Your legacy lives on in kindness and being ‘that sassy queen’ in my eyes. I love you forever bebe girl.”
The tattoo borrows from one of Rivera’s final tweets stating, “no matter the year, circumstance, or striving everyday you’re alive is a blessing. make the most of today and every day you are given, tomorrow is not promised.”
