Every year, networks such as NBC, CBS, Fox, and others launch a slew of new series in the hopes of landing a hit. This happens in some situations, such as with NBC and “Chicago Fire.” The popular series debuted in 2012, and due to its instant popularity, it has generated a slew of great spinoffs, resulting in a whole television universe franchise. Of course, there are plenty of flops, with series that either have no viewership or a small but devoted fanbase being canned after one season — or even before the first season is completed.
This year, CBS has an upcoming series that is expected to be a major smash for the network, starring veteran television actress Sophia Bush. The series is called “Good Sam,” and it was created by Katie Wech. It has a wonderful cast and idea that will surely appeal to lovers of successful shows like “Grey’s Anatomy” and “House” (The Hollywood Reporter). Here’s all we know so far about the forthcoming CBS medical drama “Good Sam” for anyone interested in learning more.
What’s the release date?
“Good Sam” has you covered if you’re looking for a fun way to start the new year. Season 1 of the new program does not yet have an official release date, but one is anticipated to be revealed shortly. “Good Sam” will premiere in January 2022, according to Survived the Shows. Because this information isn’t generally shared, it’s impossible to say whether January is correct, but it is known that the show will be one of CBS’s midseason releases, with a new comedy called “Smallwood” and a new competition series called “Come Dance With Me.”
For those who are unfamiliar with the phrase “midseason” in television, it refers to the second half of the recognized television season, which runs from January to May. In principle, “Good Sam” may debut at any time in early 2022, but it appears that the forthcoming sitcom will air on CBS sooner rather than later. So yet, just a brief teaser has been provided, and an official release date will very certainly coincide with the release of the first official trailer for “Good Sam.”
Casting for the movie
The cast of “Good Sam” is extremely talented. Of course, Bush, who many may recognise from her roles on “One Tree Hill” and “Chicago P.D.,” stars as a talented surgeon, Dr. Samantha “Sam” Griffith, who is attempting to break out from her fellow physician father’s shadow. Dr. Paul “Griff” Griffith, the father in question, is played by Jason Isaacs, who also played Lucius Malfoy in the “Harry Potter” film series and has been in TV shows such as “The OA.” Griff is an arrogant doctor with antiquated beliefs who frequently fights with his daughter when they are compelled to collaborate.
The cast of “Good Sam” includes Skye P. Marshall of “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” as Dr. Lex Trulie, Michael Stahl-David of “Narcos” and “The Deuce” as Sam’s love interest and doctor-in-training Caleb, Edwin Hodge as Malcolm A. Kingsley, Omar Maskati as Isan, and others.
What’s the plotline
“Good Sam” tells the story of Sam, a brilliant surgeon who takes over as CEO of Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital after Griff slips into a coma. Griff was “the famous leader of the place,” according to CBS on the show’s official page, a position he wishes to reclaim when he recovers from his coma. But Sam isn’t about to give up her new job so easily, so she’s forced to deal with her father’s desire for control in order to modernise the hospital and keep things running smoothly. “The consequence is a conflict of family wills in a life-and-death business between the old guard and new approaches.”
Furthermore, Griff questions Sam’s leadership within the new team, which includes Caleb, Isan, Lex, Malcolm, and others, while other conflicts within the group continue to build. Griff isn’t very nice to the other employees, who probably enjoy Sam’s approach more than his. The father-daughter connection will be followed in “Good Sam” as they continue to manage the hospital together. Only time will tell whether or not it works out.
