Greyhound is an Apple’s WWII drama film, directed by Aaron Schneider and written by Tom Hanks. After release on May 6, 2020, it has become the largest opening-weekend launch ever for the streaming platform. The film was moved from Sony to Apple TV+ because makers thought it wouldn’t make it to the theaters after the coronavirus pandemic.

The movie is the adaption of a nautical and a war novel titled The Good Shepherd. Playtone, FilmNation Entertainment, Bron Studios, and Sony Pictures are the main production companies of the film. It digitally got released on Apple TV+ on July 10, 2020. Almost 30% of viewers were new on the streaming service.

What is the story of Greyhound?

Over the years, we have watched numerous war films where the individuals showcase their leadership skills and extraordinary courage to save the world from various threats. There are many stories of unsung heroes of the Second World War. During that time, the battle of Greyhound took place. The movie reels viewers in with its thrilling story and focuses more on life on a ship.

In the film, Commander Ernest Krause (Tom Hanks), who is a commanding officer of the USS Keeling, codenamed GREYHOUND. He is tasked to protect thirty-seven ships carrying various supplies and thousands of soldiers from North America and Britain during World War II. Krause struggles to do his duty and tasks diligently as the commander of the ship while fighting the battle against enemies.

The captain along with his small force has to travel through an area of the ocean known as “the Black Pit”. The film is inspired by true events during the War of the Atlantic. The battle took place in the earliest months of America’s alliance with Great Britain and the Allied Forces.

However, the film is not based on one story, it is adapted from C.S Forester’s book called ‘The Good Shepherd’ written in 1955. Also, the character of the film is not particularly based on Captain Krause. It represents those men who were given a task where failure was not an option.

Our favorite actor Tom Hanks is back in hero mode in the inspiring World War II film. He plays the role of Commander Ernest Krause. Stephen Graham as Lieutenant Commander named Charlie Cole, Elisabeth Shue as Krause’s love interest, Evelyn, and Rob Morgan as Mess Attendant 2nd Class, George Cleveland star along with Hanks.

The other cast of the film includes Karl Glusman as Eppstein, Matt Helm at Lieutenant Nystrom, Maximilian Osinski as the voice of EAGLE, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Lopez, Tom Brittney as Lieutenant Watson, Joseph Poliquin as Forbrick, Devin Druid as Wallace, Michael Benz as Lieutenant Carling, Dominic Keating as the voice of HARRY, and many others.

Will there be a sequel to the Greyhound film?

The film creators haven’t made an announcement about the sequel of Greyhound yet. The first part launched in May 2020, so it is too early for the makers to announce the renewal of the film. We will have to wait for a few months to get hear about the sequel.
