It was good while it lasted… Until later, amigos.

Happy! first premiered on Syfy on December 6, 2019, and instantly became a hit among the audiences. The live-action adult action drama received positive reviews from critics and viewers alike and earned 4.75/5 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.7/10 on IMDB.

Inspired from the four-issue comic book by Grant Morrison and Darick Robertson gained a good following and remained consistently good by the second season. Though, despite the good reviews, looks like the stars were not aligned for this one.

Release:

The second season which premiered on March 27, 2019, was met with positive reviews just like its first counterpart. Its charming black comedy genre brought a breath of fresh air for viewers mixed with an animated amalgamation of a unicorn and Pegasus that offered an emotional core to an otherwise wild season.

Though much to everyone’s surprise, Syfy cancelled the series after two seasons on June 4, 2019. The outrage caused fans to reach out to other networks to revive the series. Some even began a petition for Netflix to pick the series up. The petition has more than 25,000 signatures.

While the network didn’t reveal the reason behind the cancellation, it is expected that the drop in ratings from season 1 must have been why the network decided not to renew Happy!

However, what if we told you there still is a silver lining? Apparently, the first season is performing well on Netflix! Things could look more hopeful if the series continues to perform better, fans could almost look at the revival of the show. If renewed one can look at a late 2021 release for Season 3!

Cast:

Law & Order actor, Christopher Meloni stars as the lead, Nick Sax, an alcoholic ex-detective turned hitman and then a cab driver. Quite a resume!

Voicing the animated unicorn-pegasus mix, Happy, is stand-up comedian Patton Oswalt.

Playing Nick’s estranged daughter, Hailey Louis Hansen is Bryce Lorenzo. Medina Senghore stars as Hailey’s mother and Nick’s ex-wife, Amanda Hansen.

Lili Mirojnick portrays homicide detective Meredith ‘Merry’ McCarthy, while Joseph D. Reitman stars as the antagonist, Very Bad Santa, a delusional drug-addicted psychopath.

Plot:

When Nick’s heavy drinking and substance abuse causes a massive heart attack, upon regaining consciousness, the former detective comes in contact with a blue unicorn, Happy, which only he can see. The unicorn helps Nick reunite with his estranged daughter; Hailey who has been kidnapped by a deranged man disguised as a Santa Claus.
