David Thewlis best known for his role in the Harry Potter film series as Remus Lupin and in Wonder women as Sir Patrick Morgan / Ares, has announced that he has married to his better half Hermine via a deeply touching and heartfelt Instagram post. The post recalls the lovers first meeting and also remarks as a poignant tribute to his bride on Instagram. The pair has tied the knot in a discreet ceremony and the blessings are being showered upon the newly-wed couple.
The 58-year-old David described his first meet as “love at first sight”. Although it is not yet clear when the couple got married, rumors started circulating in April when he described Hermine as his “patient wife”. David Thewlis posted a number of photos from their relationship, showing his bride posing against a sunset, as well as one of the newlyweds sharing a kiss. He described the “rings on our fingers” in a sweet message accompanying the post.
The caption stated: “When I first met Hermine, she was wearing a cherry red dress with white polka dots and smoking tobacco from a clay pipe.
“She told me she was the retired ringmistress of a travelling flea circus. I thought she was joking, but it was true. Ça a été un coup de foudre [It was love at first sight].”
David’s wife returned to Paris to visit her family and David mentioned that he was missing her and also confessed that he was “a little lost” without Hermine in his life. He said: “Tomorrow she is leaving for Paris and Provence to visit her family for the first time in over a year, whilst I must remain here in London, hawking fine literature to the masses. I am already a little lost.
“I feel like one of her poor fleas, off balance and out of control on a flying trapeze, with no net and no one to catch me.
“Hermine is almost packed. ‘I’ll miss you,’ I say, ‘and I expect you’ll miss me’. She smiles and puts on her headphones, as if to say, ‘Yes, of course I will’.”
The screen star credited Hermine with helping him to finish his second book, Shooting Martha, with the sweethearts celebrating the novel’s completion together with a glass of wine.
David recalled, describing the writing process: “I stayed in all day and night, every day and night and didn’t see anyone except my patient wife, Hermine.”
Speaking of David’s past relationships, he walked down the aisle once before – in 1992 with Welsh actress Sara Sugarman, the couple split after two years though.
Later in 2005, David had a daughter named Gracie with his long-term partner Marcella star Anna Friel. The couple split five years later but remained on friendly terms, co-parenting their now-teenage daughter together.
