Fans of time-loop comedies are in for a treat – not only did Amazon Prime Video release Andy Samberg’s Palm Springs, but the second season of Netflix’s Russian Doll is also on the way.
Due to coronavirus restrictions, it’s unknown precisely when we’ll see the second season, but what we do know is that some interesting new faces will be joining the already impressive ensemble.
Sharlto Copley, a South African actor, has joined the cast, while Emmy-winner Annie Murphy, who played Alexis Rose on Schitt’s Creek, will play a character that has not yet been revealed.
As of now, plot specifics are being kept under wraps, which is particularly intriguing given that the first batch of episodes closed up the storey of Nadia Vulvokov in a satisfying way.
After the coronavirus epidemic shut down the planet, Russian Doll’s second season was initially scheduled to begin last year. Although filming was formally delayed in March 2020, production is again likely to resume soon according to Deadline.
It was officially revived in June 2019, six months after its Netflix debut, and Natasha Lyonne celebrated the occasion with a film that pays tribute to the 1st season.
Natasha Lyonne will resume her role as Nadia Vulvokov in Russian Doll season two, even though she was nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her performance in the previous season.
As for Nadia’s friends Maxine (Greta Lee) and Lizzy (Rebecca Henderson), there has been no news about joining him. In addition, Nadia’s problematic mother Lenora (Chlo Sevigny) and Ruth Brenner, Nadia’s greatly loved family friend and guardian, are yet to be confirmed (Elizabeth Ashley).
Aside from Annie Murphy’s involvement, we know that Carolyn Michelle Smith from House of Cards will have a recurring part in season two of Schitt’s Creek, although her character’s identity is being kept under wraps for the time being.
In April 2021, it was confirmed that South African actor Sharlto Copley (District 9) would also appear in the second run, though his role is still unclear.
In the second season of Russian Doll, there is essentially little knowledge about what could happen, which is impressive given the massive leaks that have plagued certain other television shows and movies.
A fresh time-loop for Nadia and Alan to find their way out is expected, but the programme may go a completely another course. However, Netflix released this teaser video when the programme was renewed that pokes fun at the time-loop premise of Russian Doll season two.
