With ‘Shazam!’, DC Comics threw a curveball superhero movie at us in 2019. After the original film’s success, the studio had no choice but to make a sequel. It’s called “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” and will be released in 2023.
Foster youngster Billy Batson, played by Asher Angel, runs away from foster homes repeatedly until he ends up in one with superhero fanatic Freddy Freeman, played by Jack Dylan Grazer, in Philadelphia. Batson encounters a wizard in the Rock of Eternity who chooses him as his new champion, giving him all of his powers anytime he uses the name ‘Shazam.’
‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ will be released four years after ‘Shazam! During the sequel, the hero and his now-superpowered adoptive family will protect the world from the wizarding world’s perils. A teaser trailer has been published to give fans an idea of what to expect from ‘Shazam!’ 2.
With Asher Angel and Zachary Levi reprising their respective roles, David F. Sandberg will direct the picture. In addition to the return of the main cast, a slew of new characters are expected to arrive. Hespera is played by Helen Mirren, while Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler play Kalypso and Rachel Zegler.
Even though the film’s premise is still under wraps, filming has reportedly been completed following a delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in October 2020.
If no reshoots are required, the sequel should be released on June 2, 2023, and the production does not become further delayed. The picture was originally scheduled for release in April of 2022 and November of 2022, but now fans will have to wait until April of 2023 to see it in theatres.
