Created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg who are the writers and executive producers, Homecoming is a psychological American web series. This thriller television show is based on the Gimlet Media podcast of a similar name. it was first streamed on November 2, 2018, on Prime Video. Sam Esmail, Chad Hamilton, Julia Roberts, Alex Blumberg, Matt Lieber, and Chris Giliberti. Esmail also directed episodes of the first season starring Roberts, Bobby Cannavale, Stephan James, Shea Whigham, Alex Karpovsky, and Sissy Spacek.
As per the initial contract the series was signed for two seasons with the second season showing a different story with new characters. The second season which was streamed on May 22 2020 was directed by Kyle Patrick Alvarez and has Janelle Monáe, Chris Cooper, and Joan Cusack with Stephan James and Hong Chau reprising their roles from the first season. In this season Roberts was replaced by Janelle Monae with a new puzzle to be solved when she gets up on a fishing boat trying to figure out how she reached there.
The makers have been saying that they would want to return with a season three though nothing officially confirmed by them. As told to Digital Spy the yet have a Pandora Box of ideas for a third season. Apart from this, the pandemic has affected many projects and this might be the cause of delayed announcement of season three. We can expect a season three late in 2021.
The series is bold and not afraid to do a mix and match of cast with Julia Roberts in the lead to be replaced by Janelle Monae in the second along with fresh new faces. New faces in the second season were Chris Cooper and Joan Cusack. This confirms that the makers would have a different deck for season three.
