The Marvel Cinematic Universe is still rising and, to start with Phase Four, the vast fanbase is excited for the next slate of movies.
The third Spider-Man film, starring Tom Holland, is one of the highly awaited initiatives coming down the road. It was recently confirmed that Doctor Strange from Benedict Cumberbatch would play a role in the film, causing many to theorize about the possibility of a Spider-Man multiverse live-action.
And now, if Tobey Maguire joined the MCU, a piece of amazing fan art has imagined what it would look like. Tobey Maguire was the very first Spider-Man live-action that viewers saw on the big screen.
Before Andrew Garfield finally took up the mantle of The Incredible Spider-Man Flicks, he appeared in his trio of films. One of the most common fan theories about the third Spidey flick by Tom Holland is that thanks to Doctor Strange’s magic, the previous actor might pop up.
In the MCU below, check out how the crossover could look.
How cool is that, I mean? While there has been no suggestion that in Spider-Man 3, Tobey Maguire will play Peter Parker, the notion is one that has been popular online. And these ideas would possibly only gain traction in the months to come if they are turned into practice with fan art.
The piece of fan art above comes to us from digital artist Hibban Mohammed’s Instagram.
You’ll see different Spider-Man fan art by scrolling through the page, so there’s an interest in everyone’s favorite wall-crawler. The latest of these renderings features a pleasant reference to the tenure of Tobey Maguire as the lead, as well as the magical abilities of Doctor Strange.
In the picture, we see two separate Spider-Men living in the hideout of Doctor Strange, the Sanctum Sanctorum. Fans will note from the looks of the suits that Peter Parker of Andrew Garfield is on the left, while the suit he created in SpiderMan: Far From Home is worn by Tom Holland on the right.
These two heroes look down at one of the signature portals of Odd, which features a hand that reaches out to join the fray. The hand belongs to Spider-Man’s OG, Tobey Maguire. The hand is the iconic web-shooting role of Spidey, something all three actors have a lot of experience with.
Perhaps the best part of this piece of fan art comes from inside the portal from which the hand comes. In it, we see Joe’s Pizza, which, along with the Daily Bugle, was the place of employment for Peter Parker. This is a terrific Easter egg and is sure to please the many moviegoers who enjoyed the Spider-Man trilogy of Sam Raimi. The public has little or no knowledge, of course, on what Step Four of the MCU is going or entail.
But in the Multiverse of Chaos, the title of Doctor Strange seems to confirm that this multiverse will become part of the shared universe. As such, if director Jon Watts and company want it, his appearance in Spider-Man 3 has the potential to dramatically open the franchise.
Although fans are left wondering about Spider-Man 3, the movie’s development is about to begin. Recently, Tom Holland arrived in Atlanta to start work and was given the script of the threequel.
All we’re going to have to do is see what the plot entails and whether The Devil all the Time actor unintentionally spoils something along the way.
