Indiana Jones is one of the most popular action film series of all time. The franchise took off with the skyrocketing success of the first movie Raiders of the Lost Ark which was released in 1981. The movie got a score of 8.4/10 on IMDb and went on to win four Oscars.
The plot of the movie is set in the 1930s where the head archaeologist, Indiana Jones, goes on a mission to find some artifacts before Hitler’s Nazis do.
The sequels released so far
The franchise then went on to have two back to back sequels in 1984 and 1989. Then there was a large pause. But time didn’t make the fans forget about Indiana Jones’ adventures and the fanbase only grew.
Hence the fourth movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skulls came out in 2008 and got a whopping score of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The upcoming movie
When Disney bought the franchise in 2012, many became unsure of the return of Indiana Jones again. But in 2016, it was confirmed that the fifth movie will hit the theatres on 19 July 2019.
“Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios.
“It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor, and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
Delay of Indiana Jones 5
It was later announced that the movie will be released by 2020. This made many speculate if the delay is caused due to the de-aging CGI the movie heavily needs as Harrison Ford is no longer the young 40 year old he once was (Don’t get me wrong, he’s still equally handsome!)
Now due to the complications in filming caused due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the movie’s release date was further pushed to 2021. This made many fans anxious as we all know that Harrison Ford is not getting any younger and no one else can replace him.
