Author Anne Rice announced on Facebook in November 2016 that she was reclaiming ownership of “The Vampire Chronicles.”
Rice’s novel was previously made into the 1994 film “Interview with the Vampire,” which starred Tom Cruise as the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, who transforms Louis de Pointe du Lac (Brad Pitt) into a vampire. The plot followed Louis as he told a biographer about his life (Christian Slater). Kirsten Dunst played Claudia, a young girl who is also transformed, in the film. The picture started Dunst’s career, and it was a major box office hit at the time, breaking the record for the largest opening weekend of an R-rated film.
After 45 years after the publishing of Rice’s novel and 27 years since the debut of one of the most well-known vampire films of all time, it looks that Lestat and Louis are set for a television resurrection. AMC has now announced that the “Interview with the Vampire” series has been given the green light for production, more than a year after Variety revealed that the network had purchased the rights to Rice’s book (via Associated Press).
Interview With The Vampire – Release Date
According to a press statement from AMC, the network has commissioned an eight-episode first season, which will premiere in 2022. Next year, the series will be available on the AMC network as well as their private AMC+ service. Rice’s renowned works, spanning 18 titles, including the “Vampire Chronicles” and “Mayfair Witches” series, were purchased in a significant 2020 acquisition. This implies that not only does AMC hold the rights to the novel from which the film adaptation is based, but they also control all of the intellectual property for the series.
Rice also gave them “The Vampire Lestat,” “Prince Lestat,” “Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat,” and “The Queen of the Damned,” in addition to “Interview with the Vampire.” The latter was made into a film in 2002, but it was not as well received as “Interview with a Vampire.” Finally, if “Interview with the Vampire” succeeds in its first season, the network will have a long and intricate series of novels to mine for future seasons and even films.
Interview With The Vampire – Cast Members
Although little information about the actors of “Interview with the Vampire” has been revealed, we have learned a lot about the people who will be in charge of the program behind the scenes. Rolin Jones will serve as executive producer for the first season. Executive producers will be Anne Rice and her son, Christopher Rice. As part of their deal with AMC, Anne and Christopher will also serve as executive producers on all future programs and films.
Interview With The Vampire – Plotline
Given the fact that both Anne and Christopher Rice are extensively involved in the series’ development, it’s no surprise that the show’s foundation will most likely be based on the best-selling novel. For years, the Rice family has been trying to create a series based on the “Vampire Chronicles” books. Hulu started a project in July 2018 that never got off the ground. According to Vanity Fair, Universal planned another adaptation from Josh Boone in 2014, but the plans fell through in 2016 when the contract was not renewed, and the rights returned back to Rice.
The first series will try its best to keep faithful to what was written in the books, according to AMC Studios (who will be taking the lead on creating the entire Anne Rice collection).
