Agent Victor Kossakovsky revealed that at the Zurich Film Festival when supporting Gunda, where Joaquin serves as executive producer, the Joker actor had become a parent.
“He just got a boy, by the way, his name was … a beautiful son named River, so he can’t promote [the film] right now,” Victor explained, justifying his absence.
Joaquin and Rooney have not stated publicly that a child has been welcomed. Digital Spy has reached out for comment to their leaders.
River was the name of Joaquin’s older brother, who passed away outside a nightclub in 1993 at the age of 23 after a heroin overdose.
The actor thanked his brother in his speech while accepting his Oscar for Best Actor at this year’s Academy Awards.
My brother [River] wrote these lyrics when he was 17. He said, Run to the rescue with love and harmony will follow.
In naming their kids, other members of the Phoenix family have also paid tribute to the late Stand by Me actor.
After the actor’s involvement in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, his sister Liberty Phoenix named her son Rio, the Spanish version of Water, and Summer Phoenix renamed her son Indiana.
Joaquin and Rooney, who in May 2019 announced their engagement, first met while working on the film Her in 2013.
Three years later, they were reunited in the film Mary Magdalene, which is when they began dating.
The 45-year-old opened up about their friendship, telling Vanity Fair about Rooney’s first date.
“He said,” She is the only girl I’ve ever looked up on the internet. “We were just friends, friends of the email. I would never have done that. A girl never checked up online.”
