One of Hell’s Kitchen’s finest superheroes is returning to the Marvel Universe. And, while we don’t know when he’ll return, we do know he’ll be accompanied by a familiar face.
Kevin Feige affirmed — in the most Kevin Feige way imaginable, of course — that fans will see the character of Daredevil in future projects during an interview with CinemaBlend.
More crucially, he announced that the actor playing Matt Murdock will be Charlie Cox, who previously played the character on Marvel’s Daredevil from 2015 to 2018.
“If you see Daredevil in forthcoming stuff, sure, Charlie Cox would be the actor playing Daredevil,” Feige told the site. “Where we see it, how we see it, and when we see it is still to be determined.”
Who is expected to return?
Although it may seem obvious that Feige would want an actor who had already established himself as the character to return, there was never a clear confirmation whether or not Cox — as well as Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), Iron Fist (Finn Jones), and Punisher (Jon Bernthal) — would return to the Marvel Universe.
This is primarily due to the fact that their shows were created for Netflix under the now-defunct Marvel Television umbrella, which has been largely forgotten in the wake of the new interconnected Disney+ content.
What else do we know?
From everything we’ve seen thus far, Marvel appears to be preparing for Daredevil’s eventual participation in some form. Last week, Disney+’s Hawkeye completely introduced Maya Lopez’s Echo (Alaqua Cox), a character that has links to one of Daredevil’s biggest enemies, Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, in the comics.
Echo has also been announced for her own future Disney+ series, which would be the ideal vehicle to bring Cox’s character into the current MCU narrative.
However, if reports are accurate, we may see Cox before any of those projects. Fans had believed the figure may appear in Spider-Guy: No Way Home since the first teaser appeared a few months ago, based on a scene of an unnamed man questioning Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
