Kung Fu Panda is a computer-animated film produced by DreamWorks Animation. It’s an action-comedy film concerning the adventures of martial artists of Ancient China. It features anthropomorphic characters of talking animals which makes the film appealing to both children and adults alike. It also helps in accentuating the role of the featured animals such as pandas, tigers, snakes, monkeys, and tortoises in the Chinese culture.
The first film was released on June 6, 2008, and grossed over $631.7 million in the box office. It got a swooping response from China as well. Overtime, Po, the protagonist, became a cultural icon of China. Richard Corliss, Time Magazine, stated “provides a master course in cunning visual art and ultra-satisfying entertainment”.
Following the remarkable success of the first film, two sequels of the Kung Fu Panda 2 (May 22, 2011) and Kung Fu Panda 3 (January 29, 2016) have been released. Due to the impressive accomplishment of the Kung Fu Panda franchise, the CEO of the DreamWorks Animation Jeffery Katzenberg announced that we can expect three more sequels to come!
When will the fourth film be released?
The film was originally expected to be released this year (2020) but due to the coronavirus pandemic, its release date is being pushed towards early 2021.
What we know about the character development
In the first film, we saw Po, a beloved and innocent cuddly panda transition from a gullible cute friend to a courageous Dragon Warrior. In the sequel, we saw him come in terms with his inner self despite his tough childhood. In the 2016 film, we see him transform into the legend who is worthy of immortality itself.
Considering the storyline of the movies so far, we can see how Po is growing as a person without the cost of his innocence. This is what makes him so likable. We can expect the same with the fourth film too. He is expected to be handed greater responsibilities now as he has become capable of handling worse situations. News regarding the cast of the new film
The lead character of Po will be voiced by Jack Black, a Golden Globe nominee. The role of the Master Tigress will be voiced by Angelina Jolie, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award winner. Academy Award winner, Jackie Chan will be voicing the role of Master Monkey. Other renowned actors such as Dustin Hoffman, Seth Rogen, Lucy Liu, and David Cross will be playing a part too.
