Hollywood is not new to ugly divorces. From Gwyneth Paltrow-Chris Martin to Johnny Depp-Amber Heard to Brad Pitt-Angelina Jolie, court proceedings of their divorce was the talk of the town and continues to be on the front page of tabloids even today.
One such couple for whom divorce was not one of the smoothest rides was art mogul, David Mugrabi and Libbie Mugrabi.
David and Libbie Mugrabi’s ugly divorce battle:
The entire ordeal began when Libbie accused David to have caught him red-handed cheating on her with one of the houseguests beneath a Richard Prince painting from the After Dark series. She also accused him of physically assaulting when she was moving Keith Haring sculpture worth $500,000 out of their home.
Labelled as New York’s “nastiest splits”, the divorce proceedings then saw the two fighting over ownership of an art collection, a $72 million Manhattan house and their Hamptons home. Libbie demanded $100 million and eventually, the duo were able to come to a settlement.
Rent Overdue:
Now, after the divorce, the socialite has made headlines once again for not paying the rent. The owner of the $30,000 monthly luxury Yorkville apartment has revealed that Libbie hasn’t paid approximately $148,450 since April. The amount comprises of rent and utilities and apparently, to claim the amount, the landlord has filed a case at the Manhattan civil court.
However, sources close to the socialite reveal that it isn’t the Libbie who hasn’t paid but her estranged husband who has refused to pay the alimony despite coming to a settlement with respect to their divorce. One thing is for sure, despite whichever Mugrabi pays, rent remains overdue.
David and Libbie Mugrabi’s married life:
David and Libbie Mugrabi got hitched in 2005 and have been married for over a decade. Their net worth is estimated to be at $5 billion. From hosting lavish events for art connoisseurs, enthusiasts, millionaires and businessman to vacationing in Aspen, St. Barts, Italy, etc multiple times a year, the couple was most esteemed and sought after names in the art world.
Owning paintings of the most renowned artists in the world such as Renoir, Basquiat, Andy Warhol, Picasso, Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, etc. They are also known to own the largest collection of Andy Warhol paintings amounting to almost 800.
The Times of London compared Mugrabi’s influence to the Dow Jones index, i.e., an index that measures the stock performance of 30 publically-owned blue-chip companies in the United States. It is believed that the art market would crash if the Mugrabis ever went bankrupt.
