There’s no doubt in the fact that the box office is known to crash whenever Marvel comes up with a new film. Some of the highest grossing films in the world are those which belong to the Marvel catalog such as Avengers: Endgame ($2.797 billion), Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048 billion) and the likes.  Though it is quite certain that these were not the box office numbers Marvel received when their first movies came out back in 2008.

The first film, Iron Man made over $585.7 million all over the world whereas Captain America: The First Avenger brought in $370.6 million while Thor was a part of the collection getting in $449.3 million worldwide. These stats are according to the Box Office Mojo and these three introductory films are believed to be among the bottom five performers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But there have been much worst numbers collected at the studio. Even though the first introductory films couldn’t make it at the box office, they are considered to be very successful on behalf of the studio. We have been witnessing movie from the MCU which were not only disappointing in terms of their box office numbers but also lacked studio backup. One of them is The Incredible Hulk which certainly was an incredible disappointment.

Another major no-no for the studio was releasing Howard the Duck which performed miserably bad at the box office.  In fact, viewers got to the point of thinking what the makers were eventually thinking of the movie’s future or the character’s future in general in the MCU. Thankfully, we didn’t see this running around for the next few years in the timeline.
