The wait will be over, soon enough!
Based on the RPG video game series by Capcom of the same name, Monster Hunter has been in development since 2012 and is considered Paul W. S. Anderson’s passion project. During an interview in 2018, the Resident Evil director had revealed being an avid fan of the franchise for nine years!
He would often play the game during his travels to Japan. This only goes on to show that when the rights of the video game was on the market, Anderson jumped on the opportunity. After about five years of discussion, Anderson finally owned the rights for a live adaptation in 2017.
Release:
The Pompeii director’s keen interest in the video game series stems from the “incredibly beautiful, immersive world they’ve created”. The filming for the fantasy action thriller film began in Cape Town, South Africa on October 5, 2018, and ended on December 19, 2018.”
Initially, the film was slated to release on September 4, 2020. But like most films that were postponed owing to the coronavirus outbreak, Monster Hunter too was one of them. Impact Pictures and Constantin Film later revealed that the film will be delayed and see a release of April 23, 2021.
