My Brilliant Friend is a compelling coming-of-age tale that explores themes of love, class difference, and social mobility through the lens of narrator Elena Greco and Lila Cerullo’s lasting relationship.

The story takes place in post-war Italy, in an impoverished neighborhood on the outskirts of Naples. Both the novels and the television series portray the conflict between the country’s past and the growth of anti-fascist sentiments in the 1950s, with the richest in the area benefiting from wartime battles and the poorest looking for a means to stop corruption and better their social standing.

Despite her sharp intellect, Lila is forced to drop out of school since she is a female and her parents cannot afford to keep her in school. Meanwhile, Lenu is self-deprecating yet studious, and he goes on to university.

The couple struggles to reconcile their love and admiration for one another with their competition, with Lila’s character being portrayed as nasty and vindictive (through the lens of Lenu).

While the first two novels in the series, My Brilliant Friend and The Story of a New Name, have already been adapted for television, there are two more volumes that have yet to be adapted. So, if you’re captivated and want to learn more about My Brilliant Friend, here’s what to anticipate from season 3 of HBO’s My Brilliant Friend.

When will My Brilliant Friend Season 3 release?

Although HBO stated in April 2020 that the series has been renewed for a third season, no date has been set for its release.

Who will be casting for My Brilliant Friend Season 3?

Season 3 will see yet another shift in the timeline, similar to how the first few episodes of season one focused on Lenu and Lila when they were younger before being replaced by older actors. Based on the third novel in the series, Those Who Stay and Those Who Leave, the plot jumps ahead to when the pair is adults.

Expected Storyline for My Brilliant Friend Season 3?

According to Ferrante’s third novel, Lila will continue to suffer sexual harassment at Bruno’s sausage factory, where she now works. She and Enzo’s friendship grows over time, and Lila studies computer science with him. Elena marries and soon becomes pregnant, but her undying love for Nino stays at the forefront of her mind.
