My Brilliant friend is a TV series based in the Neapolitan novel by Elena Ferrante of the same name. It follows the story of two girls Elena and Lila from lower economical backgrounds.
The whole story is narrated by a sixty-year-old Elena as she recounts her life with Lila when her (Lila’s) son contacts her to see if she (Elena) had any lead about his disappeared mother.
In the first season, we see little Elena and Lila who grow up to become strong women of marriageable age. Though there are some prevailing tensions between the two as Elena starts envying the attention Lila gets from the boys, their friendship still remains.
The season ends with Don Achille’s son (Lila’s rival) attending Lila’s wedding wearing the prototype of the traveling shoe. Lila soon realized that her husband had betrayed her.

The second season shows a more complex and intimate life of the two girls as they grow into tough independent women.
They are no longer the angsty teenagers but they still have the fire in them. This season also shows how the children from the poorer sections of the society are forced to grow up faster and lose their childhood.
The show has been well received by the audience and has an IMDb rating of 8.6/10 and a whooping score of 96% in Rotten Tomatoes.

Due to the show’s overwhelming success, HBO has decided to renew the show. This will be based on the third novel “Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay” where Lila leaves her husband and Elena becomes a published author.
Who are the Cast of My Brilliant Friend Season 3
As the characters are maturing into adulthood, HBO has announced that they will be changing the actors as well.
Actor Gaia Grace who played Lila has recounted her experience with the character and reported that she hoped the new actor would would “love her (Lila) at least a penny of what I love her”.
Release date of My Brilliant Friend Season 3
The first season was aired in November 2018 and the second season in March 2020. Considering the past record we can expect the next season to be released next summer. But we cannot be too sure considering the current inconvenient situation caused due to the global coronavirus pandemic.
