Netflix has announced that a Bird Box spin-off is in the works and that it will be set in Spain this time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Carriers directors Alex and David Pastor have been tapped to produce the spin-off project that will be set in the filmmaker’s homeworld.
The film is said to reunite Netflix with Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan, the creators of the Susanne Bier-directed Netflix original film from last year.
The spin-off will be written and directed by Alex and David Pastor, the couple behind the sci-fi thrillers Carriers and Self/less.
Dylan Clark and Chris Morgan, which made a Sandra Bullock film in 2018, will team up with Adrián Guerra and Nria Valls’ Nostromo Pictures to produce the new movie.
For the time being, no information about both the upcoming announcement has been published. The fact that the spin-off will be in Spanish and set in Spain is the only thing that has been verified. Furthermore, Netflix is committed to getting the show off the ground as soon as possible, with production starting before the end of the year.
Bird Box was without a doubt one of Netflix’s most successful films in 2018. The film, which was based on Josh Malerman’s book, followed Malorie as she attempts to find a haven for herself and her two children in a world where strange monsters can make you kill yourself just by looking at them.
Following the success of the Bird Box film adaptation, Malerman published a sequel to his book. Malorie is the title of the book that follows the woman following the events of the first novel and finds her and her children in a different place where her parents may have been living all along. In July of 2020, the book will be published.
