The upcoming Pokémon-themed MOBA, Pokémon Unite has fans all geared up and excited. Well, the good news is that the anticipation won’t be lasting much longer as a release date has been officially revealed on the game’s official Twitter account. The Pokémon Company said in a statement, “Get ready for Pokémon to heat up your summer with the July 21 release of Pokémon UNITE on Nintendo Switch. Offering a new kind of Pokémon battle, this strategic team battle game gives players the opportunity to compete in 5-on-5 team battles.”

In collaboration with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company International, Tencent, which is the parent company of League of Legends, has created a Multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) named Pokémon Unite. The game lets the player roam around as a Pokémon who eventually has to battle both the enemy team and wild Pokémon. The game tasks two teams of five with capturing as many Pokémon as possible.

When the title of this game first released players were expecting the reveal of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl but instead of that they are introduced to something which is completely different. The response for the game is positive though as the gamers have generated a bit of hype for what looks to be an interesting take on the MOBA genre. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch next week and on mobile devices later this year.

If the players signed in before the end of August, they will be getting a bonus playable character. This is done to commemorate the launch of Pokémon Unite and the bonus which is mentioned is the mythical Pokémon Zeraora. It is also worth noting that Zeraora is the only “rare” Pokémon available as a playable character in Pokémon Unite. Apart from this bonus character, the only playable characters revealed to this point have been standard Pokémon such as Pikachu, Venusaur, and Garchomp. The statement says that players will receive the “Unite License” of Zeraora which eventually concludes that the inclusion of the new playable Pokémon Zeraora will need to be purchased separately.

Speaking of the originality of Zeraora, it was introduced in Pokémon Sun and Moon, and can be described as a pure electric type. Zeraora is a perfect fit for the Pokémon Unite as it was also part of a launch bonus for Pokémon HOME on mobile platforms and Nintendo Switch, with players able to obtain a free shiny Zeraora in Pokémon HOME after completing a special Max Raid battle in Pokémon Sword and Shield. Since it is a very rare Pokémon, it has only been obtained by participation in certain events to this point.
