Kagiso Lediga’s South African crime drama web television series, Queen Sono premiered on Netflix on February 28, 2020. The story is directed by Kagiso Lediga and Tebogo Malope , co-written by KAgiso Legiga ,Karabo Lediga, Camilo Saloojee, Christopher Steenkamp and Muzi Dlamini.
This series brings you the story of a South African Spy who is going for a challenging mission while she is managing her personal life which too is facing certain challenges. Season one of the series was a relatively shorter one with 6 episodes in the run. Despite of that the show received highly positive reviews on its release. The show is reposted to receive 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes as its average rating.
Viewers liked the thrills and twists along with epic action scenes, making this South African drama a smashing watch for the audience. The show got positive critics reviews too. The series has been shot majorly in various African locations like Johannesburg, South Africa, Lagos, Nigeria, Kenya and Zanzibar, Tanzania. The series also brings in the efforts by Netflix to diversify its strategy and bring in more of international programming on to its platform.
Regarding Season two of the show, the makers have not shared any details yet. It is more or less obvious as the Season 1 was launched only few months back. Following the global pandemic of corona virus, the schedule of the season must have deferred.
Going by the current scenario if the Queen Sono is renewed for its second season, we can expect the same might getting released in the month of February 2021 or may be in the midst of the year.
Assuming Season two gets its renewal, it would be highly unlikely that the show will return without Pearl Thursi reprising her role. We assume some other key characters of the show would be repeated in second instalment of the series which will include Vuyo Dabula as Black Nationalist rebel leader Shandu Johnson Magwaza, and Kate Liquorish as sociopathic villain Ekaterina Gromova.
It will be surely interesting to see how the story unfolds for Queen Son in its Season 2. Stay tuned as we bring you more details on this.
