Knives Out was a quirky oddity as it premiered in theatres in November 2019. This film was neither blockbuster superhero sequels nor Oscar-bait films competing for awards.
It was a classic murder mystery, complete with a quirky detective and a room full of suspects. However, viewers enjoyed it, and by the end of the year, the film had become the year’s surprise success. So, how much longer will fans have to wait for Knives Out 2?
The first Knives Out film was a box office success, grossing $165 million domestically, prompting Lionsgate to announce a sequel in February 2020. However, it’s possible that the confirmation came too soon.
Things changed on March 31, 2021, when Netflix revealed it had acquired the Knives Out rights from producers Rian Johnson and Ram Bergman. Netflix will also make two sequels to the film. The blockbuster deal announced Johnson’s return as writer and producer, as well as Daniel Craig’s return as Benoit Blanc, a Hercule Poirot-like detective. It also transformed the fledgling film franchise into a near-certain streaming success.
At the time, Netflix announced that casting would begin immediately and shooting would begin shortly. Here’s what we know about the project so far:
Cast Of ‘Knives Out 2’
Both films will feature Daniel Craig’s Detective Benoit Blanc and his Foghorn Leghorn accent, as previously stated.
But it was the ensemble cast that surrounded him that made the film brilliant, including Don Johnson, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the late Christopher Plummer. It also featured Marvel hero Chris Evans in a sweater, which became an iconic image from the film.
However, since each film is based on a different scenario, only Craig is likely to return. But don’t be concerned about the new outfit. Knives Out 2 is now recruiting new Marvel talent to help round out the cast.
Dave Bautista of Guardians of the Galaxy was the first notable name to join the new cast in an as-yet-undisclosed role on May 10. It’s a reunion for Bautista and Craig, who previously worked together in the James Bond film Spectre. There’s no news on what kind of knitwear Bautista’s character wears just yet, but fans know he’ll be wearing an oversized sweater.
And there’s at least one more former Marvel star on the roster worth wearing a sweater for. Deadline followed up on May 11 with the news that Edward Norton would be joining the cast.
But hold on, there’s more! Variety reports that Janelle Monae will also be attending the case. Leslie Odom Jr. has also been added to the cast of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
And just when fans thought the cast couldn’t get any better, Deadline announced that Kathryn Hahn would be joining the cast. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be disappointed if Daniel Craig doesn’t sing “Agatha All Along.”
Plot Of ‘Knives Out 2’
All fans know so far is that the Thrombeys and Drysdales will not be returning in the upcoming Knives Out films. Each film, like any good old-school murder mystery series, will feature a stand-alone case with a brand-new high-profile cast.
Fans will have to wait for more details. However, with filming scheduled to begin in Greece in the summer of 2021, more information should be available soon.
Release Date For ‘Knives Out 2’
