He has appeared in several iconic films like Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and much more. He was last seen in popular films like Todd Phillips’ Joker and The Irishman. Indeed he is a versatile actor.

Robert De Niro is suffering a huge financial loss

The coronavirus outbreak has left everybody restless. There is no doubt that various types of businesses are losing finances due to ceased production. Moreover, even the film industry is suffering from a massive loss because all the theaters and production houses are closed.

Recently, Robert De Niro’s lawyer was called in the court for the case on emergency ordered by his ex-wife Grace Hightower. According to the sources, Robert had cut his wife’s expenses from $100,000 to $50000. De Niro earns 15 million a year, and the divorce prenup states that Robert has to yearly pay 1 million dollars to his ex-wife. The prenup also dictates that if his income drops, then payment might also decrease.

According to the reports, his 65 years old wife requested the court that her monthly American Express credit card should be reinstated from 50,000 USD to 100,000 USD. Hightower called the hearing not only because of the financial issues, but also after De Niro forbade their two kids (Helen Grace De Niro, 8, and Elliot De Niro, 21) from entering his upstate New York compound.

His lawyer justified that Robert reduced the payment amount because he recently received a huge blow to his finances due to the ongoing pandemic. The Irishman actor, 76, owns numerous restaurants that aren’t making any money in 2020. Nobu is one of his restaurants, where he lost 3 million dollars in April 2020. He received another blow of 1.87 million in May 2020 for the same restaurant. He is running out of money now.

Furthermore, he also had to borrow $500,000 from his business partner to pay the investors on a capital call. The situation might turn worse if things don’t come back on track soon. He might even go bankrupt. And it seems like the pandemic won’t end soon. Besides, his wife knew the entire situation and still claimed for $100,000 a month. So the court told him to make a compromise, and pay $75,000 a month for now.

He is suffering from severe losses in income in Greenwich Hotel as well. Now, he will have to send funds to his estranged wife as per the orders from the court. Moreover, the court even asked him to let his children stay in the upstate compound, where he is currently staying. It is a pretty bad situation for him. However, things might go back to normal soon when the pandemic ends.
