Theo James, who played Sidney Parker in the film, will not appear in Sanditon’s surprise return. Although the revival of this Jane Austen adaptation was welcomed by fans, the absence of Sidney could deter some viewers.
Sanditon’s revival show won’t include major characters
On Friday, PBS Masterpiece broadcasted a message from the actor on Twitter (May 7).
“As much as I enjoyed playing Sidney, I’ve always maintained that his story ended just as I wanted it to,” James said.
“The broken fairy-tale-like ending between Charlotte and Sidney intrigues me, and I wish the cast and crew of Sanditon continued success with future seasons.”
The network wrote in the caption: “Seasons 2 and 3 of Sanditon will continue Charlotte’s journey through life and love. Though Sidney Parker will not be returning, the Sanditon heroine will have plenty of romance and adventure ahead of her. We can’t wait to show you what we’ve got planned…”
Apart from the past, ITV initially cancelled Sanditon in 2019, just two months after its first season ended.
At the time, a spokesperson for the channel said: “We adored Sanditon and were ecstatic to see it on ITV. We would have loved for it to come back, but we just didn’t have the audience to make it happen, which is heartbreaking for anyone involved in this fantastic adaptation.”
Although the revival series will air on PBS in the United States, it will be a BritBox Original in the United Kingdom. New episodes will also be shown on ITV.
