Scissor Seven, an animated action-comedy, has now aired three seasons, with the international success chronicling the exploits of Seven, an amnesiac hairdresser who dreams to be an assassin… despite being terrible at it.
The program has received praise from both fans and reviewers for its lighthearted perspective on a serious topic, with Seven’s escapades and botched assassination attempts offering plenty of comedic relief in a story of fighting factions and assassination assignments. The big issue today is whether the scissor-wielding fan favorite will return for a fourth season — here’s all you need to know.
Release Date Rumors
Unfortunately, the fourth season of Scissor Seven has not yet been formally confirmed. While Netflix distributes the program globally, Scissor Seven premieres in China on Bilibili, Tencent Video, Youku, iQIYI, and Sohu Video — thus a renewal will be primarily determined by how well it performs in China. However, considering the show’s success in both China and overseas, it’s extremely probable that the action anime will return for a fourth season.
After all, season three ended on a cliffhanger — and according to an interview with director He Xiaofeng, the program may stretch much beyond four seasons, as he told WeChat that the series was a “20-year-long-term operation IP” that he wants to finish with season 10.
Even if Scissor Seven is renewed for a fourth season, there will most certainly be a delay. Typically, the show is not available on Netflix until at least eighteen months following its Chinese premiere, with at least an eighteen-month hiatus between seasons.
Scissor Seven may debut in China in late 2022, following by an international Netflix release in 2023, according this timeline. Season three, on either hand, ended with a title card indicating that a Scissor Seven film will be released in 2022. This may create a minor delay in the development of season four, thus it is quite possible that season four will not premiere until 2024!
Casting Members
In the English adaptation of the program, comedian and actor Ronny Chieng plays aspirant assassin Seven. Chieng has appeared in films such as Godzilla vs. Kong and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and has been a contributor to The Daily Show since 2015.
Jas Patrick, who voiced blue chicken Dai Bo in Genshin Impact, is also expected to return, while American Dad’s Jill Bartlett completes the cast as flying chicken Xiao Fei. Jennie Kwan (The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf), Karen Huie (Ghost of Tsushima), and Lawrence Saint-Victor (The Bold and the Beautiful) are also expected to return as Thirteen, Chairman Jiang, and Mad Bark.
Is there any Trailer?
Season four of Scissor Seven has yet to be revealed, therefore there will be no trailer for quite some time. We’ll update this page as soon as one is available, but for now, enjoy the season three trailer, which is both humorous and action-packed.
Expected Plotline
Unlike Japanese anime, Scissor Seven has no manga to adapt to, making spoilers and possible narrative elements difficult to find. Season four’s plot will be heavily influenced by what occurs in the upcoming 2022 film – however, with the film generally rumored to be a prequel, the fourth installment may easily begin up where season three left off.
The third season concluded on a cliffhanger, with Seven suffering from the effects of black ice poison, which was gradually deleting even more of his memories. Season four will most likely center on the aftermath of Seven’s poisoning — unless he miraculously recovers, the want to be assassin may lose all memory of his companions on Chicken Farm.
Even if Seven escapes with his memories intact, it is apparent that Manjusaka and Shimen are determined to get him and Thirteen, thus another attack is inevitable in the near future. In any case, there will undoubtedly be more of Scissor Seven’s distinct comedy as everyone’s favorite inept hairdresser-turned-assassin seeks to create a name for himself.
